Bouldering tour in Villanueva del Rosario, Malaga

Bouldering -climbing boulders without ropes-
is one of the fastest and most popular ways into climbing. The freedom of unhindered movement allows climbers to push their technical ability and gain confidence on difficult ground. This can be a purpose on itself or can be transferred to longer climbs.
This is a popular choice for those who:

  • Have never done outdoor bouldering and want to try what real rock feels like
  • Wish to make the best of their time by being shown the best problems at their level of experience
  • Like the idea of trying rock climbing but are scared of heights and wish to overcome this fear

The bouldering venue of Villanueva del Rosario has hundreds of problems on perfect limestone.
We will provide coaching, spotting and good quality crash pads to climb confidently any problems you wish to try.

  • We meet in Villanueva del Rosario itself or at the nearest car park. The parking for the bouldering area is in a beautiful mountain place called ‘Mirador de Alto Hondonero’, above the village of Villanueva Del Rosario. It is located right by the boulders; Out of the car and you start climbing!
  • We have a chat about your aims for the day and

we check that we have all the personal equipment we will need: ground covers, crash pads, slippers, appropriate clothing, water and food, sun protection, etc.

  • The pace of the day is set by you. We stop when you wish; may be for a chat on technique improvement, a rest, a picnic or pictures.

  • We look at any possible weak aspects in your climbing and show you ways to improve them. Bouldering outside, whilst still physical, is generally more subtle than that experienced indoors because there are more options for holds and body positions.

  • We warm up in many easy problems first, so that your confidence and technique are at the optimal level. When you feel ready, we show you more challenging problems, increasing the difficulty gradually.
  • All year round.
  • The best conditions are during mid season and often in the colder months.

  • This bouldering tour takes place in the mountain area above the village of Villanueva del Rosario, 40 km north of Malaga .
In the Summer, our sessions usually run from 9:00 to 13:00 hrs.
In the Winter, we run them usually from 14:00 to 18:00 hrs.
This is a bit flexible; the aim is to get the best weather conditions for bouldering.

Frequent rests are needed in between problems so that you can physically recover and your feet can rest from having tight rock shoes on.
We organise the participants in a group so that everyone gets to climb as much as possible.
